注水器

タンクからボイラーに水を送るために、蒸気機関車は注水器と呼ばれる装置を使用します。通常、大きなバルブハンドルをひねって開閉することで操作します。注水器は、蒸気圧を利用して、一方の容器からもう一方の容器に水を注入するものです。

炭水車から追加されるのは冷水であるため、すでにボイラーに入っている水の温度に影響を与えます。したがって、蒸気の生成をあまり妨げないように、消費量と必要量に応じた水量をゆっくりと継続的に追加することが推奨されます。水温を確認する方法はなく、圧力計の針の動くスピードを見ることで間接的に確認する以外にはありません。

There is no way to monitor water temperature, other than indirectly by looking at the speed the boiler pressure gauge needle is moving.

Injectors normally rely on steam pressure to inject water, but in Derail Valley this limitation is omitted to avoid complications when starting a cold engine.
