給水器是蒸汽機車上用於將儲有的水注向鍋爐，維持正常水位的裝置。通常透過一個閥門進行操作。
自外注入鍋爐中的水的尚未加熱，它會影響鍋爐中的既有水溫，並導致當中蒸氣凝結成水，且能使壓力大幅下降。因此建議在適當時機小量注入所須水量。
There is no way to monitor water temperature, other than indirectly by looking at the speed the boiler pressure gauge needle is moving.
Injectors normally rely on steam pressure to inject water, but in Derail Valley this limitation is omitted to avoid complications when starting a cold engine.
