Tryckluftbromssystemet kan övervakas via bromstrycksmätare, vanligtvis placerade i hytten på ett motoriserat fordon.
Huvudbehållarens tryck bör alltid vara, eller nära, 8 bar, och det fylls automatiskt på av kompressorn.
Huvudledningens arbetstryck är mellan 3,5 bar när bromsen är helt ansatt och 5 bar när den är helt lossad. Huvudledningens tryck representeras vanligtvis av en svart eller vit nål på huvudledningstryckmätaren, och dess tryck styrs av tågbroms reglaget.
Brake cylinder pressure goes between 0 and 3.75 bar and represents the actual braking force applied to the wheels. Brake cylinder pressure is usually represented by a red needle on the brake pipe gauge.
Since gauges display pressures relative to the atmospheric pressure, the actual absolute pressures are approximately 1 bar higher than what's indicated on the gauge and used in technical documentation.
