Brzdový systém je možné monitorovať pomocou brzdových prístrojov, ktoré sú zvyčajne umiestnené v kabíne motorového vozidla. Hlavný zásobník by mal byť vždy vysoký, do 8 barov a automaticky ho dopĺňa kompresor. Prevádzkové tlaky v brzdovom potrubí sú medzi 3,5 baru pri úplnom stlačení brzdy a 5 barov pri úplnom uvoľnení (keďže tlakomery zobrazujú tlaky relatívne k atmosférickému tlaku, skutočné absolútne tlaky sú približne o 1 bar vyššie, ako je uvedené na manometri). Tlak v brzdovom valci sa pohybuje medzi 0 a 3,75 baru a predstavuje skutočnú brzdnú silu pôsobiacu na kolesá. Brake cylinder pressure goes between 0 and 3.75 bar and represents the actual braking force applied to the wheels . Brake cylinder pressure is usually represented by a red needle on the brake pipe gauge.

Since gauges display pressures relative to the atmospheric pressure, the actual absolute pressures are approximately 1 bar higher than what's indicated on the gauge and used in technical documentation.
