轉轍器是位於稱為「道岔」的軌道分岐點上，用於引導鐵路車輛駛向兩軌道分支其中之一的可動部件。依據所選擇的遊戲難度而定，它們可以透過多種方式操作：

以通訊無線電瞄準轉轍器
擁有「調度員」執照後使用車站配線圖和鐵路配線圖
使用轉轍器指示機
於滑鼠模式下以游標操作
直接與轉轍器槓桿互動

駛向自道岔分出的軌道時，必須轉轍器指向欲前往的方向。而自反方向駛向於道岔收束的軌道時，轉轍器將自動切換向車輪來的的軌道，不須再操作轉轍器。

與道岔相關的標誌有兩種類型：「道岔預告標誌」和「轉轍器方向標誌」。

「道岔預告標誌」為一個繪有紅色「Y」字形狀的白色標誌，用於表示前方路段設有道岔與當前路段的速限終點。它的正下方有一塊白色附標，用於表時其與道岔的相對距離，以公里為單位。若距離為 400 公尺，則以「0.4」標記。

「轉轍器方向標誌」則置於轉轍器上，為繪有一條白色對角線的紅色標誌，用於表示轉轍器當前的開通方向。操作轉轍器時，此標誌會隨之指向對應開通方向。

當牽引較長列車倒車時，若有安裝行駛距離追蹤器有助於判斷列車與道岔相對位置。
