Remote Controller

From Derail Valley

Remote controller is a handheld device item used to operate compatible locomotive types remotely. It is designed for use in shunting operations, within a limited range.

Whether a vehicle is compatible with the remote controller can be seen in the vehicle catalog .

Unlike the universal control stand , remote controller is a mobile device, albeit with more limited functionality.

Recommended operational range for the remote controller is up to 400m. Signal loss may occur above that range, with a complete loss at 650m and above. Beware that there is no safety mechanism included to stop the paired vehicle if it goes out of range.

The controller’s range can be extended with a remote signal booster .

Remote controller is battery powered. It can be slow-charged by exposure to sunlight , or fast-charged with a battery charger .

To use the remote controller:

  1. Click the power button (PWR) to turn it on
  2. Take the controller inside a supported locomotive
  3. Click the pair button (PAIR LOCO) to pair the controller with the vehicle
  4. The vehicle can now be operated using the controller

The controller also features buttons for automatic coupling , depending on the session difficulty settings . If this feature is enabled, when the remotely controlled vehicle is close to another, you can press “CPL” to couple it. Using the selector knob, you can select which vehicle to uncouple with the “UNCPL” button.

The remote controller can be used simultaneously with MU connections . It also automatically handles features such as the direction of headlights on a paired locomotive when the reverser position is changed, or, depending on the difficulty settings, the handbrakes when coupling and uncoupling vehicles. Holding the run key (default Left Shift) while coupling or uncoupling bypasses the automatic handbrake action.
