窒息性物質

ガスは可能な限り大量に輸送するため、多くは圧力をかけて輸送されます。万一、ガスが漏れた場合、大気圧と等しくなるために、輸送していたタンクよりもはるかに大きな体積を持つことになります。そのため、列車の周囲に酸素が欠乏し、周辺の人や動物が息絶えてしまう可能性があります。これを「窒息」といいます。

In order to transport gasses in as big an amount as possible, many are transported pressurized. In case of a leak, as the gas is equalized with atmospheric pressure, it will take much greater volume than the tank it was transported in. This can cause dislocation of air around the train, potentially leading to suffocation of people and animals in its vicinity.

一方、窒息性ガスには、危険な面だけでなく、良い面もあります。漏洩事故の際に、酸素を遮断するため、消火に寄与します。
