Slug

Slug, also known as DE6-860S , is a slug and a work train used to enhance the tractive effort of vehicles with electric drivetrains . To become available, the slug needs to be unlocked from a special garage, with a key that can be bought in one of the shops .

Once unlocked, the slug can be requested with the comms radio , for a fee , depending on the session difficulty settings . The slug can receive damage and needs to be manually serviced .

Slugs are repurposed diesel-electric locomotives that no longer have a diesel engine and a cab . Instead, they are filled with concrete, in order to retain a high tractive effort with their still functioning traction motors .

Slugs enhance traction of vehicles with electric drivetrains by borrowing their power output to their own driven axles, too. Now with more driven axles, the main vehicle is less likely to overheat and wheelslip . Slugs are most useful in situations dealing with wet conditions , steep grades , high acceleration, such as when shunting , and similar. To use the slug, connect it to an electric drivetrain vehicle with the MU cable .
