As the time flows, days pass with the sun and moon rising and setting. Availability of the sun affects visibility, outside temperature , rail wetness and the quality of charging of solar-powered equipment.

Depending on the session difficulty settings , a day cycle in Derail Valley may have a varying duration in real life. In the default presets, the cycle is set to last 2 hours in real life (which translates to 5 minutes per in-game hour).

The industries in Derail Valley have varying working hours. However, deliveries are being created at all times. Drivers in the Derail Valley Railworks and Transportation company are encouraged to work at any time of day and night.
