In Derail Valley weather is always changing. Sun availability affects visibility, outside temperature , track wetness and the quality of charging of solar-powered equipment.

Depending on the difficulty settings , within a few in-game hours the weather in Derail Valley may change from sunny to cloudy, or from foggy to stormy. It may rain, but it never snows.

Station offices around the world feature weather forecast posters . Use them to plan your activities accordingly, but be prepared that no forecast is perfect.

Most motorized rail vehicles are equipped with wipers , to help clear the rain droplets off the windshield. They also come equipped with sanders , to help improve traction in wet conditions.

Even long after rainfall, the land and the tracks may remain wet and slippery, depending on the sun exposure availability. Additionally, in high humidity, a sunrise is likely to thicken the fog conditions.

The speed of charging of solar-powered equipment, may depend on the weather. While such devices do charge in cloudy and shadowy conditions, the effect is the strongest when exposed to direct sunlight.

In particularly foggy conditions, the usage of high beam headlights is discouraged due to a pronounced glare. Low beams, on the other hand, are more suitable and don’t hinder the visibility further.

You can sleep in beds to skip bad weather.

Solar-powered equipment, such as remote controllers and flashlights , charges the quickest when exposed to pure sunlight, depending on the time of day . In shadows, or cloudy conditions, the equipment still charges, but at a lower capacity.

In sandbox mode , you can select the starting weather of your session. Using the weather editor UI, depending on the difficulty settings , you can change the weather during gameplay, or in photo mode .
