Wheels can be severely damaged by wheelslip, wheelslide, collisions and derailments. They also receive slight damage from distance traveled. This is regular wear and tear. Brakes receive slight damage from regular use too.

Damage to wheels and brakes contributes to banging noise, but does not otherwise affect performance of vehicles.
