Message definition (Motorized Vehicle Naming Convention)

On {{pll|Internal Combustion Engine|diesel}} and {{pll|Electric Powersource|electric}} vehicles, wheel arrangement is represented by the number of powered {{pll|Rail Vehicle Types|axles}}. Unpowered axles are not taken into account. On {{pll|Steam Overview|steam locomotives}}, wheel arrangement is represented by the number of leading unpowered wheels, the number of driving wheels, and finally the number of trailing unpowered wheels (aka Whyte notation, but with hyphens omitted).

ディーゼル車と電気車では、車輪配置は、動力を与えられる車軸（動軸）の数で表されます。動力を与えられない車軸（従軸）は考慮されません。
蒸気機関車では、車輪配置は、先頭の非動力車輪（先輪）の数、動力車輪（動輪）の数、最後に後続の非動力車輪（従輪）の数で表されます（いわゆる、ホワイト式車輪配置に近いですが、ハイフンは省略されます）。
