Work trains are privately owned rail vehicles that can be acquired and used in addition to those provided by DVRT . They are:

For some of the work trains to become available, you need to buy keys to special garages in shops , find the garages and unlock them. For others, such as private locomotives , the process is different.

Being privately owned, work trains don’t go through the insurance system . Instead, they need to be serviced manually .

Once acquired, work trains can be used at will, and never despawn . Because of this, work trains are particularly suitable for customization with paint jobs , gadgets and train parts .

Work trains are typically able to be requested anywhere using the comms radio , sometimes for a fee . If a work train is cleared with comms radio , it will go back to its default parking location.

Some work trains need to be unlocked in career mode , in order to become available in sandbox mode . In career there's usually a single instance of each work train type in the world. In sandbox, however, many instances can be spawned .
