生涯模式圍繞著推進遊戲進行。玩家在其中將被給予基礎裝備，靠著駕駛所屬鐵路公司的列車，儘可能控制運行產生的費用並完成交貨訂單，以賺取金錢取得多種執照和物品。
在建立新的生涯模式遊戲時，玩家能選擇是否一併進行用於介紹遊戲基礎知識的教學情境。
To complete the career, you are tasked to acquire all available licenses. Additionally you may also strive for other goals, such as to buy all items, or restore all demonstrators.
Initially you may only select among the default difficulty presets for your career sessions. After making minor progress, however, you are free to select custom difficulty presets, too.
To help with playing career mode, you may want to familiarize yourself with the train driving efficiency guidelines.
Alternatively, there is also a sandbox mode.
