Demonstrator Restoration
Demonstrators are pre-production vehicles that a manufacturer sends to railway companies for demonstration and evaluation, before ordering a larger fleet.
In Derail Valley, for every generic DVRT locomotive type, there is one unique, historical demonstrator with a custom paint job.
At some point in the past these demonstrators were all given to the Derail Valley Railway Museum, their righteous owner. However, since the museum has been closed, its locomotives have been highly neglected and lost.
Demonstrators need to be found and restored, in order to be used again. They are scattered around the world and their locations are randomized with each session, with a high likelihood to be hidden somewhere within stations.
Demonstrators are private locomotives, making them advantageous in comparison to regular DVRT locomotives in some aspects, such as them being summonable, never despawning and looking special. Like all private locomotives, demonstrators are best suitable for further modification, such as with train parts and gadgets.
Once such a vehicle has been found, to be able to access it, one must first acquire the Museum license. For each of the demonstrators there is a dedicated track in the museum building. Next to the track is a panel with exact steps on how to restore it.
The process involves bringing the vehicle to the museum, supplying it with missing parts using utility vehicles, servicing it and finally giving it a paint job.
Only once it has been fully repaired, a restored demonstrator becomes a private locomotive.
