It is the early 2000s in Derail Valley, a country emerging from a severe economic crisis.

You are starting your career as a train driver for Derail Valley Railworks and Transportation (DVRT), a railway company connecting various towns and industries in the valley via a vast railway network .

Despite the country's assets being old and worn out, they are still plentiful and sufficient for a positive comeback, given a bit of hard work.

As a DVRT employee, you are provided with the introductory tutorial, station offices , licenses , delivery orders , motorized rail vehicles , cars , service points , insurance and of course the railway infrastructure . Conveniently, DVRT also tracks fees for you.

Being big on rail transport, the country of Derail Valley used to have a railway museum , too. Once a crowded gallery of beautiful demonstrator locomotives , it is now an abandoned ruin, for sale to private individuals , along with its lost fleet.

Out there in the valley there are also some hidden vehicle garages to be discovered. Keys for them can be bought in shops .

Other than your job, you also have a modest house in the countryside.
