Licenser är ett sätt att växa sin karriär som lokförare i Derail Valley. De tillåter bland annat förarna att ta bättre betalda jobb och använda bättre lok. Licenser kan köpas på karriärhanteringsmaskinerna, med pengarna som tjänas in från genomförda jobb. Det finns dock en varning - ju fler licenser man äger, desto mer behöver de betala sina avgifter. Licenser ökar förarens självrisk och även minska deras tidsfrist för bonus.
There is a caveat, however - the more licenses you own, the more you need to pay for your fees. Licenses increase your copay, as well as the time bonus deadline. Available licenses to buy are:
- Shunting - Gives access to shunting type delivery orders.
- Logistical Haul - Gives access to logistical haul type delivery orders.
- Train Length 1/2 - Gives access to delivery orders involving long trains.
- Concurrent Jobs 1/2 - Allows taking multiple delivery orders at once.
- Fragile - Gives access to delivery orders involving sensitive cargo.
- Dispatcher - Allows setting switches remotely using route and station maps.
- Manual Service - Allows vehicles to be serviced manually.
- Multiple-Unit - Allows compatible vehicles and items to be used in multiple-unit configurations.
- Museum - Gives access to the Derail Valley railway museum.
- HAZMAT 1/2/3 - Gives access to delivery orders involving hazardous materials.
- Military 1/2/3 - Gives access to delivery orders involving military bases and cargo.
- DE6 - Gives access to the DE6 locomotive type.
- DM3 - Gives access to the DM3 locomotive type.
- DH4 - Gives access to the DH4 locomotive type.
- S060 - Gives access to the S060 locomotive type.
- S282 - Gives access to the S282 locomotive type.
Vissa licenser har förkunskaper som kräver att föraren äger andra licenser innan de kan köpas själv.
Innan föraren bestämmer sig för ett köp kan föraren skriva ut licenskravet hos en karriärhanterare för mer information, för att till exempel se dess effekt på självrisken eller tidsbonusen. Föraren kan bara köpa licenser om de inte har några återstående avgifter.
När en licens köps utfärdas den som ett tryckt dokument. Föraren behöver inte ha licensehandlingar på sig för att använda dem, utan kan istället förvara dem säkert hemma.
Licenses are only available in career mode, but acquiring some, such as those giving access to certain locomotives, makes those locomotives available in sandbox mode, too.
