Difficulty in Derail Valley is defined by many individual parameters, collectively called presets. These parameters may be viewed in difficulty editor, accessible from the “sessions” section of the main menu, where they are described in more detail via hover tooltips.

W grze dostępne są trzy domyślne szablony trudności. Każdy z nich zapewnia inne wrażenia z gry:

Komfortowy - gra uproszczona i wybaczająca błędy, dostępne rozmaite ułatwienia.

Standardowy - gra wymagająca i dynamiczna, zmuszająca do myślenia, ale umiarkowanie karząca za błędy.

Realistyczny - gra trudna i bezlitosna, wymagająca dużego skupienia, niewybaczająca błędów.

Użytkownicy mogą również tworzyć i udostępniać własne ustawienia trudności.

Difficulty can be changed at any point during a session, but in order to use custom difficulty presets in career mode , you need to unlock one of the starting licenses first, either Concurrent 1 or Train Length 1 .
