Difficulty in Derail Valley is defined by many individual parameters, collectively called presets. These parameters may be viewed in difficulty editor, accessible from the “sessions” section of the main menu, where they are described in more detail via hover tooltips.
There are three default difficulty presets included with the game. They are each designed to provide a different experience:
- Comfort - Relaxed, forgiving, and allowing various comfort features and aids.
- Standard - Challenging and dynamic, requiring thinking, but not too punishing. This is the recommended preset.
- Realistic - Difficult and unforgiving, requiring a high level of focus.
You may create and share your own difficulty presets too.
Difficulty can be changed at any point during a session, but in order to use custom difficulty presets in career mode , you need to unlock one of the starting licenses first, either Concurrent 1 or Train Length 1 .
