Private locomotives are locomotives that can be owned by the driver, and are not the property of DVRT. The only way to acquire private locomotives in Derail Valley currently is through demonstrator restoration.

Unlike the DVRT locomotives, private ones do not despawn, which makes them suitable for customization with paint jobs, gadgets and train parts.

Private locomotives, like other work trains, are not tracked by the insurance system, and instead any servicing to them needs to be done manually.

These locomotives can be summoned anywhere for a fee, using the comms radio.

Finally, private locomotives can be found in the world only in career mode, and in sandbox mode they can be recreated from any locomotive using the comms radio livery mode.
